There are still a few months until the current season of LOL is over, but the Riot Games team is already working on improving the next one. As we have learned, next year’s preseason will not bring great changes, although it will serve to reinforce some elements that are already part of the game and incorporate others that complement them.
For starters, Riot wants to take even more advantage of dragons and different Rifts to create unique environments. They will seek to generate new terrain obstacles that contribute to enjoying unique games and that alter their development after the transformation of the map. They will also try to expand on the possible themes of dragon powers and how those powers affect champions in the Rift.
When it comes to items, Riot’s intent is for players to continue to make decisions about purchasing Mythic items with each champion, but not about Legendary items. Some items should be perfect for specific champions and not a general choice for most. To avoid this, there will be more Mythic options for support champions and improvements to the legendary item options for Mages, Assassins, and Tanks.
The Runes are also an aspect to improve for Riot. For them, the identity of the Inspiration tree is not entirely clear, and they will seek to expand the use of its key runes. Additionally, they will make some balance adjustments to secondary runes.
On the other hand, from Riot they affirm that they will seek to give the teams that are behind in the games more strategic options so that they can overcome through objectives. However, this will not completely nullify the advantages gained by players who dominate their lines, so they will closely monitor these changes to ensure their balance.
Challenges are one of the systems that Riot Games wants to implement during preseason 2022. Through the challenge system, players will be rewarded for all the fun, unique and challenging objectives they complete during matches. Some of the specific objectives that you want to meet with the final version of the challenges are the following:
- Let players demonstrate their level of mastery and dedication to League of Legends.
- Let players see and compare a wide variety of achievements in League of Legends.
- That players have different types of challenges and achievements to strive for.
The challenge system seeks that players have broad objectives and visual representations of them throughout League of Legends for them to complete and compete with each other. With this, Riot wants to group the different systems, such as Champion Mastery, Effigies, Ranked Matches, Levels, Events and Collection, so that there is always something for all players.
This system, while it may seem similar to the Effigies, is designed to stand out and fit in with other systems. Thanks to this broader approach, the unique space designed for a champion’s specific domain (such as Champion Mastery or Effigies) will continue to be an important part of the League of Legends experience. Thus, the system will allow to develop and show the dedication of the players to their favorite champions over time.
