The independent games (indies) are having excellent performance in 2021.Por that, we decided to make a selection with the best titles presented so far by independent developers. Interesting, different proposals designed to advance one more step in the evolution of an industry where creativity and ideas are the key to lasting.
Narita boy
An independent game of Spanish development. Its creation was conceived a little over 4 years ago on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, and the final product lives up to what was promised, and with availability on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. The game allows us to control a boy who is transported to a digital world where he will be the hero who fights against a corrupt entity. The adventure unfolds with action and platforms , a visual and playable style very similar to the most popular titles of the 80s, with many melee battles and a powerful soundtrack.
A frenetic combat system, a grotesque and technological meta narrative and a level design that invites fans of beat’em up. If you are one of the players who miss adventures like Double Dragon or Contra, you will love Narita Boy.
Genesis noir
The artist collective Feral Cat Den developed this unique graphic adventure that has incredible visuals. It brings together elements from the world of comics and crime novels, plunges us into a world of crime and suspense and provides a point & click playable style with lots of interactivity and an abstract and cosmic universe.
The adventure takes us to explore the Big Bang that occurs after the shooting of a jealous god, and the creation that involves jazz tunes, stereotypes of noir and a magical journey with strange but very striking interactive scenes that aim to surprise the public.
Loop Hero
A unique adventure that traps you for hours. Loop Hero is part of the titles called “idle games” or inactive games. In this type of adventure the interaction is rather reduced, rewarding patience, correct movements and strategy to achieve that our character achieves his goal. In addition, it includes some aspects of card titles, deck management and elements of pure strategy that invite you to explore the curious fantasy world and its countless mazes that become more and more complex as you go along.
Everhood
Available on Nintendo Switch and PC, Everhood is a combination of Spanish origin between the dark RPG genre and rhythmic titles. It is as if Guitar Hero and Under Tales have merged to offer a strange, deep and extremely addictive adventure . In the battle sections we will have to tune our ears and speed with our hands to win the rhythmic battle, evading chords that vary according to the musical style of each enemy. The rest of the time, we explore a psychedelic world, inhabited by the most extravagant creatures and with equally unique dialogues.
Gnosia
This independent title, exclusive to Nintendo Switch, comes at a time when Among Us is positioned as one of the most fun proposals for online gaming. The premise of Gnosia is quite similar: we are in a spaceship and an alien entity with the power to take human form has sneaked in and begins to assassinate the crew. The style has been adapted to graphic novels, a genre that in Japanese territory has a large audience, and that thanks to well-told stories and attractive designs, sometimes also reaches the West.
Nuts
A game that begins with an investigator venturing into the woods to track down the squirrels that live there , it’s as quirky as it is fun in Nuts . It is a detective investigation title, where we have to take photographs that show us that these animals have their habitat, and thus prevent an evil corporation from destroying the natural environment and turning it into a housing complex. The gameplay incorporates a cycle of days, being able to select where to place the cameras to track the squirrels. A different aesthetic, clever puzzles and a level design that becomes very challenging as we progress.
Cyber ??shadow
We end our indie game recommendation with a title that draws on the 8-bit classics like Ninja Gaiden. The Yacht Club Games team (the same ones behind Shovel Knight) take us to fight against symbiotic monsters controlling a ninja with cyborg powers in Cyber ??Shadow . As sci-fi from the 80s is the plot, as is the level and character design. On more than one occasion it recalls Ninja Gaiden, Tenchu ??and other action proposals and ninjas from the golden age of 8 and 16 bits. Ideal for fans of retro games.
